THE SEA BENEATH OUR FEET: THE AQUIFER AND OTHER NEBRASKA WATER RESOURCES

When you are finished exploring the Amazon, be sure to visit “The Sea Beneath Our Feet: The Aquifer and Other Regional Water Resources!” Did you know there is a virtual sea of water underneath most of Nebraska? In fact, the water covers an area stretching all the way from South Dakota down to northern Texas! In “The Sea Beneath Our Feet,” you’ll learn the story of the Ogallala Aquifer, which formed millions of years ago beneath the Midwest. See how the underground lake formed, and how the water source was first discovered. See how everyone from farmers, to industries, to city residents use the aquifer everyday. You’ll also learn what steps are being taken to safeguard this important resource for future generations. The exhibit will also highlight Nebraska’s other rivers, lakes, and streams. “The Sea Beneath Our Feet” is the perfect compliment to “Amazon Voyage,” right in time for the summer!

EYEWITNESS: AMERICAN ORIGINALS FROM THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES

Out of the stacks and vaults of the National Archives and its Presidential Libraries comes a unique selection of eyewitness accounts. They are vivid and intensely personal, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the events described. “Eyewitness: American Originals” chronicle some of the most dramatic moments in history: the storming of the Bastille in Paris during the French Revolution, the explosion of the Hindenburg, and the assassination of President Kennedy. They capture the exuberance, grief, joy, panic, or chaos that characterized the events described. Many of these accounts, never before exhibited, offer visitors a fresh and surprising perspective on familiar events.

This exhibit is sponsored by Lincoln Financial Foundation, Peter Kiewit Foundation, and The Durham Society.
