2007 General Scheduling Information

 

Durham Western Heritage Museum offers summer workshops for groups of 10 or more children, ages 5 through 12. All workshops are an hour in length and can be booked Tuesday through Friday between June 5th and August 31st. Reservations must be made at least three weeks in advance and a $25 non-refundable deposit must be made in order to finalize all reservations.

 

In order to meet the scheduling needs of all groups the museum has established a schedule of available time slots. Please choose one of these options when planning your field trip:

9:30 - 10:30 a.m.

10:45 - 11:45 a.m.

12 noon - 1 p.m.

1:15 - 2:15 p.m.

2:30 - 3:30 p.m.

3:45 - 4:45 p.m.

 

Prices: All workshops are $4.50 per child. The museum allows 1 adult free per every 20 children and additional adult chaperones are $4.00 each.

Programs for Ages 5-8

Midway Madness   Join us at the museum "midway" for some good old-fashioned fun at the fair! Enjoy carnival-type games, food, and prizes at this summertime celebration.

Games, Galore and More  School is out and it's time to play! Learn about playthings and pastimes from days gone by. Try your hand at a Native American game, pioneer fun, parlor games, and much, much more!

 

Summer Roundup   Howdy partner! Ride back in time as we examine the Wild West. Glimpse into the western world of clothing, equipment and cattle drives. Your adventure bound when you create your own Sheriff badge and complete a race around our stables- I mean classroom. Giddy up!

 

Edible Science   Experiments you can eat and drink --- is that a good idea? We think so!

Students will explore chemistry fun as we complete hands-on science experiments that

result in the creation of tasty treats!

 

Summer Express   Climb on board the Summer Express to fun! Travel through the museum's train cars and engage in some train themed activities with us!

Think It, Build It, Shake It!  Calling all engineers! Construct buildings, towers and bridges using a variety of materials, then put your creation to the test with our shake table. Discover the strongest shape and uncover building secrets. Sign up today and take the building challange.

The Signers  In the summer of 1776 a group of people, chosen to represent their colony, joined together to give us one of our most influential documents, the "Declaration of Independence". Join us this summer as we glimpse into the lives of those who wrote this document and the meanings behind its powerful words.

Trinkets and Toys   Toys aren't just fun to play with, they are also fun to make! Find out about some old-time toys - then create your own toy to take with you!

 

Science Wizard   Science is amazing! Test the limits of the physical world, as we explore principles dealing with liquids, gases and solids. Watch your students become science wizards in this hands-on class!

 Home on the Range   Saddle up! Join the cattle drive as you learn the cowboy's role in history. Learn aboout living on the range, branding, clothing and more. You'll learn cowboy talk and create your own brand. You won't be "barking at the knot" (wasting time) with this adventurous class.
