Crossroads of Commerce examines the lives of nine of Omaha’s business pioneers: John A. Creighton, Edward Creighton, Herman Kountze, Joseph Hopkins Millard, Joseph Cullen Root, George Joslyn, William A. Paxton, Sr., Byron Reed and Gilbert Hitchcock.
These men, whose pursuits included real estate, banking, newspaper publishing, and community development, helped transform Omaha from an outfitting post into a thriving city. From securing Omaha as the home of the Union Pacific Railroad, to managing Omaha through financial panics that wiped out other would-be cities, this exhibition shows that without their early leadership, the city might never have endured. Come celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit of Omaha’s business pioneers! On display in the Velde Gallery February 16 - April 27, 2008.
